About this Item
There are cracks to the jacket spine, which jacket spine is missing a 3/4-inch X 2-inch chip to bottom. Jacket "fair to good-only." Author's first novel; fourth printing in the year of first publication (1942.) Huie's "Mud on the Stars" was one of two novels (the other being Borden Deal's "Dunbar's Cove") on which screenwriter Paul Osborn and director Elia Kazan based their 1960 film "Wild River," starring Lee Remick, Jo Van Fleet, Albert Salmi, and the sometimes sober Montgomery Clift -- and introducing the wonderful Bruce Dern. (Huie's work here contributed the rural Southern matriarchal family, their reaction to the flooding of their land, and the controversial employment of African-American laborers by the TVA . . . while Deal's novel focused on the heavy-handed Tennessee Valley Authority seizing the river valley properties that had belonged to pioneering families for generations.) 340 pp., now reduced from $510.
