Shows lots of signs of age (re tanning) but a very firm clean copy. photo attached 9th edition 1935 (8 other editions since 1915) This cook book is an absolute classic of Australian (specifically Melbourne) culinary history! The brain child of Lucy Drake, then cookery teacher at Melbourne s Swinburne Technical College, it began life as a textbook in 1915. Her niece Dorothy Giles became her assistant and after Drake died in 1920 Giles went on to revise, enlarge and publish the textbook as Miss Drake s Home Cookery - a cook book of such enduring popularity that it was published in many editions. The original 1920s cover art was still in use for this 11th, 1943 edition. Despite defining a generation of home cooking between the wars in Australia, it is now a rare and sought after book - possibly because it was literally used to death by many of its owners! This copy shows considerable signs of use (see the condition description for full details) but nonetheless remains useable and exudes plenty of old world charm! Such a gorgeous survivor and prize for any lover of vintage cookbooks.
