Full-Leather. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Later Printing. Essays by the great Anglo-Irish satirist (1667-1745) and Dean of Saint Patrick's, in an edition published during his lifetime. One volume only. The multivolume set also contained works by Pope, Arbuthnot, and Gay; this contains only Swift. Full calf leather binding, ruled in gilt; fancy gilt and five raised bands on the spine. Clean text, very bright; 316 pages; marbled endpapers. Contemporary signature on the Title Page (Frances Shepheard, 1747). Chipping to the foot of the spine. The binding has split, and the front cover has separated (it is present). This is an attractive book, but please note the condition issue. Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of repair or restoration. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Wear to boards and board edges, corners bumped. Spine worn, with small loss to top of spine. Starting to crack over outer hinges, especially near top of spine. Endpapers cracked over inner hinges. Front hinge slightly slack, hinges otherwise holding. All edges red, speckled, top edges darkened. Mild offset browning to endpapers. Owner's signature to inside front board: 'William Dyde - 1759' (possibly the printer and antiquarian, author of the History and Antiquities of Tewkesbury, 1790). 2pp. bookseller's advertisement at front of volume, and 5pp. catalogue at rear. 12mo (10 x 17cm). Decorative head- and tail-pieces and fleurons. Printed by William Bowyer; his records show 1500 copies printed (ESTC).
