Fourth edition. 278 pp. 17.5 x 11 cm. Original but worn calf boards with a modern professional replacement spine, gilt lined and titled with a modern black and gilt title. Some ornamented tailpieces, headpieces and decorated capitals. In fair/good condition. Internally tight and bright. Contents include: Drapiers Letter V., Intelligencer No I, V, VII, XV, A Vindication of His Excellency John, Lord Carteret, Considerations on two Bills relating to the Clergy of Ireland, Presbyterian Plea of Merit, A complete collection of Genteel and Ingenous Conversation, A Proposal for giving badges to the beggars in Dublin, and several others. The ninth volume of 'Miscellanies', containing various prose/verse pieces, etc. Fourth Edn., 1751; original/contemporary binding of full brown leather; plain border rules blocked in gilt (dulled/very worn) to boards; fore/bottom edges speckled red; [ii]+278+[i(Contents)]pp. Spine worn at top, and original leather title label is missing, but spine secure; leather to front joint slightly split at top/tail, and hinges slightly tender, but cords/boards secure; slightly scuffed/scored boards rubbed at corners, but quite clean; top edge very tanned; bottom edge lightly soiled; endpapers/preliminaries moderately browned at edges, but pages generally clean/bright/very crisp. Binding secure, all intact. Contemporary armorial bookplate of 'Wm. F. Maior' to front paste-down endpaper. Swifts Miscellanies was originally published in eleven volumes in 1742, each standing alone and containing misc. works, essays and letters by Swift.
