This Bulletin was, according to Sheikh Yamani, intended to "stimulate investment and eventually build a profitable mining industry which will broaden our economy and make us less dependent on oil revenues" (Foreword). It summarises work done during the 17 years up to 1963, with work since then to be covered in later bulletins. Chapters describe the land and people (geography, government, and economy); geology and mineral deposits (geologic setting, economic geology, and geophysical exploration of the Saudi Arabian Shield), the Saudi Mining Code, and regulations on foreign investment. A major focus is on capacity building in Saudi Arabia, with the section on government for example, describing universities, colleges, training centres and other educational establishments. Appendices cover income taxes, and cumulative oil production. Plate 1 presents the Economic Geographic Map of the Arabian Peninsula, 63x56cm, approx 1cm to 40km, compiled by the Ministry from USGS Map I-270B (1963), with details on cultural and physical features, and selected mineral prospects. The other maps include a Saudi to US size comparison, status of the geographical and geological mapping survey, aerial photographic coverage, various minerals, and areas covered by seismic surveys, gravity surveys, and magnetic and scintillation surveys. Charts show health and education spending for 1948-64, and imports and exports for 1959. Seller Inventory # 4749
