The Messiah, Attempted from the German of Mr. Klopstock by Joseph Collyer in Fifteen Books, Printed by George Forman, New York, 1795, 403 pp plus publisher s ad, contemporary leather binding, 7 x 4.25 , 12mo. In good condition. Lovely leather binding nicely done! Four raised bands and beautiful morocco label. Green tooling embellishments to spine. Fresh end papers. Very sturdy and attractive. Title page torn at bottom edge. Typical age-toning to leaves with scattered foxing. Light staining throughout. Free of known markings. Binding tight and intact. Very nice. Please see photos. Early American edition, nicely rebound and quite scarce. A prose translation of Klopstock s Der Messias begun by Mary Collyer and after her feather completed by her husband, Joseph Collyer.
