About this Item
7" x 9", unpaginated (approx. 100+). Fascinating 1933 book of heroes, for boys, in a comic book page format, every page profusely illustrated with text captioning for each illustration. Fascinating to see who was considered a hero in 1933: the cover illustration has Buffalo Bill, Charles Lindbergh, and (?) Count Felix Von Luckner (?). Among the 50 or so men featured are many military heroes (Teddy Roosevelt, Gen. Pershing, Eddie Rickenbacker, James Doolittle - who later achieved greater fame as commander of 'Doolittle's Raid' in WW2, Gen. George Custer and many others); explorers Shackleton, Peary, Sandy Smith, Cecil Rhodes, H.M. Stanley; also, sports heroes, aviation pioneers, and others. This copy in Very Good Plus (VG+) to Near Fine (NF) condition with only minor bumping and soiling; interior pages are perfect; cover is great, protected by the Good Plus (G+) ductjacket all these years: dj panels are very good but edges are worn through and there is 2-inch loss at spine heel. The book itself, however, is a very nice copy of a scarce title. [photo is with dj]. Seller Inventory # 02432v
