1954 signed first edition, H.E. Swihart (Sturgis, Michigan), 5 1/8 x 7 3/8 inches tall stapled paperbound in pale green printed covers with a black cloth spine, 109 pp. Slight soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers. Nicely signed by the author on the blank front free-endpaper. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked - of this scarce memoir of life soon after the turn of the century for one entering the clergy in the Midwest, particularly uncommon signed. ~G~ The 1954 memoirs of Rev. Harvey E. Swihart (1882-1976), for many years an Evangelical United Brethren Church pastor at churches in South Whitley, Columbia City, Etna Green, Bourbon, Albion, Rich Valley and Sugar Grove, Indiana. Contents: Preface; Boyhood; School Days; Romance; College; Teacher; Railroad; Decision; Conversion; Ministry; Sugar Creek; Washington Center; Etna Green; Bourbon Circuit; Sugar Grove; Retirement; Tragedy; Sermon. The Evangelical United Brethren Church was an American Protestant church formed in 1946 by the merger of the Evangelical Church and the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. It subsequently merged with The Methodist Church to form the new larger United Methodist Church, which finally gathered together under one roof most of the American descendent disciples of the famous Methodist missionaries John (1703-1791), and Charles Wesley (1707-1788).
