1846. Eleventh edition. xii, 451pp. and a frontispiece portrait. All edges gilt. This is a biography of Legh Richmond (1772-1827), a Church of England clergyman and writer. He is noted for tracts, narratives of conversion that innovated in the relation of stories of the poor and female subjects, and which were subsequently much imitated. He was also known for an influential collection of letters to his children, powerfully stating an evangelical attitude to childhood. The book is bound in contemporary brown full leather boards with gold titling and designs and five raised bands on the spine. There is an embossed design and gold lining on both boards. The case of the book is in very good condition with some expected scuffing and light soiling to the leather on the boards There is rubbing to the leather on the corner tips and spine corners and bands on the spine. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few small marks and light foxing on the endpapers. The frontispiece is more heavily foxed and has a water stain around the top corner and bottom edge. The second front free endpaper is soiled and also has an old inscription. The rear free endpaper is missing. Seller Inventory # VIRel120
