Original decorative cloth covers in tidy condition, a little browned on the front edge board, slightly rubbed on the spine where a reference code has been removed, from the Oates family bearing the bookplates of William Edward Oates and Robert Washington Oates, the former travelled with his brother Frank for a hunting trip in South Africa, an account of this early expedition would be based largely on Frank Oates's journals and letters, 1881. Blind stamped with the name of the family home, Gestingthorpe Hall, and with the posthumous bookplate of Frank Oates. A note, dated 1946, states the book was presented to Imperial College, London from Robert Washington Oates. Frontis, 6 chromolithographs, 14 hand coloured plates, 4 maps, text illustrations, all present as required, the second edition was expanded with additional plates and text Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
