Uncolored folding map, not apparently removed from any other source, of the southern fork of Long Island from Shinnecock Hills to Montauk. The town of Montauk to the top of the island are shown in an inset map at the top right. Hundreds of large land owners are identified. Lot lines shown. Very good condition, with small scattered tears at edges and wear along folds. Includes all of the towns and villages of Easthampton, Bridgehampton, Southampton, Sagaponck, Sag Harbor, Amagansett, Montauk and other villages and neighborhoods. The map does not extend west to Quogue or Westhampton, with the westernmost major feature being the Shinnecock Hills Golf Course. Published by Lewis Homes Co., Inc. which promotes itself on the map as "Largest Owners, Dealers and Developers of Long Island Real Acreage." This is an amazing, possibly unique, map of the east end of Long Island, including much of the Hamptons, on the cusp of its ascendancy into the summer resort area it became over the course of the 20th century. This map encompasses the same information as was employed in Hyde's 1916 Atlas of a Part of Suffolk County (LeGear L2492). However, it is much scarcer, not being in the collections of New York Public Library or Library of Congress.
