Rather shelfworn brown calf boards with gilt ruled panels with decoration on spine, title in gilt on second panel, naroow gilt banding round borders of both boards. Initials EMC on upper board. Marbled endpapers. Corners bumped. Engraved frontispiece and title page vignette. Previous owner's name on prelim. It looks as though the page edges were dyed pale maroon, this has faded. All pages are bordered. . *** CONTENTS: The author (1769-1820) was a successful teacher of young ladies, this book first published in the 1790s, and re-published frequently, with revision over the following seventy years.
