About this Item
Certainly one of the 20th century's most important books of political theory. James Burnham had been a prominent Trotskyist activist in the 1930s but came to reject socialism, becoming an influential theorist in conservative politics. Burnham continued to agree with the Marxists that capitalism would inevitably lose the class struggle, but he disagreed that it would lose to socialism. He argued instead that it would be a managerial class that would defeat both. "The Managerial Revolution" delves into the implications of this change, questioning the role of administrators in both business and government, and their broader impact on society. Burnham's work significantly influenced George Orwell and his novel, "1984," and remains influential in understanding the evolving dynamics of economic and social power.
