A popular travel guide by Samuel Augustus Mitchell, which went through many revisions over numerous decades. Copyright date 1836. The original owner wrote on inside front cover: "Robt. Cook / October 1st, 1846." He also inscribed on the reverse of ffep, "Not yours but / R Cooks Book / October 1st, 1846." Contents pages clean and bright, unfoxed, complete but for the hand-colored map. Tight binding. Highlighting primarily the states east of the Mississippi, the text consists mostly of tables showing routes of roads, canals, railroads, steamboat routes, and major navigable rivers, with distances.
