About this Item
"The last major exhibition of the works of Sir John Everett Millais, Bart., President of the Royal Academy, was the memorial exhibition staged by the Academy as the Winter Exhibition of 1898, two years after his death. Apart from the Fine Art Society's Exhibition in 1901, there has been no subsequent exhibition devoted solely to Millais, although his works have appeared in the ever-increasing exhibitions on the Pre-Raphaelite movement as a whole. It was obviously time for a reassessment, both of the young, revolutionary Pre-Raphaelite and of the great Royal Academician of the second half of the nineteenth century -- the painter of The Blind Girl, as well as the author of Bubbles." [Foreword] 307 entries, 97 pages, with color frontispiece, prefatory matter (including List of Lenders), and two drawings; plus 40 black-and-white plates. Covers are nipped at front lower backstrap, and have a partial crease and a mended 1" tear at rear; text is clean and strong. Seller Inventory # 203621
