Translated and edited by Elizabeth Smith, and based on letters give her by Dr Mummsen of Altona. Elizabeth Smith (1776-1806) was an oriental scholar and philologist of some repute. Friedrich Klopstock was noted for his religious epic 'Der Messias' of 1748.
