[x] + 213 pp. Bound in original black cloth with red titles, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear with chips at head and tail of spine, which is sunned, with foxing on inside wrapper. Wear to extremities and spotting of top edge; otherwise a very good copy. US edition of the first of the author's Inspector Alan Grant novels, with six titles published 1929-52. Josephine Tey, the pseudonym of Elizabeth MacKintosh, (1896-1952) was a Scottish crime novelist, best known for her fifth Alan Grant novel on the theme of Richard III and the Princes in the Tower, The Daughter of Time (1951).
