8vo. 7.5 x 5 inches. 328 pp. Bound in original brown cloth, gilt, with publisher's device on front board. A little wear to extremities, including corners, browning of flyleaves and light foxing of edges, extending into a few margins; otherwise a very good copy. Signature on front pastedown. One of several titles on Russia written by the author at this time, it examines the various elements of Russian society, including the peasants, the nobility, the professions, the church, the average Russian, government, education and justice. Maurice Baring (1874-1945) was a poet, novelist and travel writer, who served in the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War. The book is dedicated to H. G. Wells.
