About this Item
[12], 297p, [14]. Contemporary calf. 19th century bookplate M. Water with bookplate. Richard Steele (1672-1729) was an Irish author and politician. He co-founded the magazine the Spectator with his friend Joseph Addison. Its interesting that Dibdin in the Library Companion p614 writes 'I question if his works, detached from those of his illustrious coadjutor [Addison], would find many purchasers'. Yet after some further review, one finds that Lord Grenville had a copy of the Steel's collected works. Hinges cracked, but holding. Some rubbing to the extremities and spine. Light occasional scattered foxing. Otherwise a good copy. Seller Inventory # 008027
