Octavo. xxxii, 320 pages. The author was a legendary antiquary whose scholarship gave us the word "folklore". He wrote on the origins of the duties, privileges and ranks of nobility, and he was the friend as well as an influence on Charles Dickens and many of the accomplished writers and scholars in England. It was his econoclastic treatise here on Human Longevity which raised a storm since he challenged what many had believed as authentic ases of those who lived well beyond a hundred years.
