About this Item
The manuscript diary of a wealthy young mother, written in a Houghton and Gunn of New Bond Street, London, Diary for 1900. Bound in red leather with bright gilt spine lettering, marbled end papers, the diary was lockable with a sturdy metal clasp and so the pages are as good as new. Very good, worn to corners and spine ends, the clasp is detached and the key lost. There are sporadic entries throughout the year which tell of their privileged life and pastimes. The diarist enjoyed plays and "saw David Garrick at Wyndham's Theatre"; her husband William was a keen country sportsman. "Willie shot at Sutton and was nearly poisoned by some acid which a footman had used for developing photographs and had put into a jar labelled Table Salt". Ownership inscription of theatre director James Roose-Evans to ffep. An intriguing volume. Very Good Please contact Christian White Rare Books Ltd for more information or images of this item.
