No date, but circa 1892, Thomas Nelson and Sons (London), 4 1/8 x 6 1/8 inches tall embossed blue cloth hardbound, no dust jacket (as issued), red lettering to front cover, accordian-fold set of 12 chromolithograph reproductions of color paintings of the Loch, 21 pp. text (which is illustrated with black-and-white engravings), plus engraved map. Moderate soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers. Slight marginal soiling and foxing to chromo views, with wear at the folds. Slight marginal soiling to text, and a couple of instances of slight creasing. Otherwise, a very good copy of this scarce late nineteenth century tourist guide to Loch Lomond, a freshwater Scottish loch which crosses the Highland Boundary Fault, often considered the boundary between the lowlands of Central Scotland and the Highlands. OCLC (No. 8757362) locates only three copies of this guide at institutions worldwide - at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. ~T~ Loch Lomond is the largest inland stretch of water in Great Britain by surface area. It is a popular leisure destination and is featured in the song 'The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond.' The Loch is now part of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park which was established in 2002. Loch Lomond is a corruption of the Gaelic Lac Leaman, or 'Lake of the Elms.
