VERY RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book complete with dust-jacket. "The Little Colonel's Hero" By Annie Fellows Johnston. Illustrator: Etheldred B. Barry. This is the Twenty-Seventh Impression, published by L. C. Page & Company Publishers, Boston, September 1944. 12mo, 19.8 cm x 14 cm x 3 cm, Burgundy cloth-covered boards, Gilt embossed lettering on spine & front cover, Clear embossed 'The Little Colonel' Trade Mark on back cover, Matt printed dust-jacket. 274 pages. Weight: 407 Grams. CONTENTS ARE LIKE NEW!!! However, dust-jacket is age tanned, discoloured & foxed, scuffed in places, marked on reverse and on front flap, edges frayed, creased & torn, tiny pieces missing from flap corners & from edges. BOOK IN GREAT SHAPE: Spine is clean & sturdy, ridge down middle, slightly bumped & scuffed either end, gilt bright, binding tight! Cover is clean with a little edge wear. Corners are straight slightly scuffed. Ink annotation (name) on 1st end paper, slight transfer of ink onto front pastedown & dust-jacket flap. Tiny linear indent in margin of p. 39. Some pages (very few) have a crease near spine. Page 85/86 has a small corner fold. Very light age tanning throughout. RARE ITEM, BOOK IN EXCELLENT CONDITION!!!
