About this Item
This book, a 'new and complete edition', is an 1892 reprint of an earlier edition of December, 1830. It consists of two volumes in one book and includes a dedication to Sir Walter Scott, Baronet. Including the frontispiece (with tissue guard), there are nine b/w engravings. The typography has a biblical appearance with a bordered two column layout and copious footnotes. Maroon tooled boards with gilt (gold) decorative titles along the spine (faded). Condition: deemed as poor because the spine's cloth, while still attached along the upper side, is loose. Linked to that is the internal visibility, front and back, of some of the book's binding materials between the black pastedowns and endpapers (images). The other condition-related element worth mentioning is the level of tanning. It is generally mild to moderate, with occasional spotting, throughout. However, the title, frontispiece and tissue guard are very affected - see image. Accepting these characteristics of ageing, the book can nevertheless be viewed as being in a reasonable overall state for a publication of this age. pp. xix, 735. Please note that, depending on destination, we may request an additional payment to cover any extra shipping/postage charges. Proceeds to Amnesty International. Abe2349.
