Ex-library with bookplates and labels on endpapers. Leather bindings impressed with the label "Quebec Library" on the front boards. Front board detached from vols. 1, 3. & 8. Vol. 5 bound upside down. Vol. 6 boards loose but still attached with leather cracked along hinges and parts torn off of the back board. Some damage to endpaper but text pages clean and unmarked. Sold "as-is." Continued from the Year 1637, to the year 1682. Written originally in "ARABICK," translated into Italian, from thence into English, and now published with a large historical preface and index to illustrate the whole, by the translator of the first volume." Presented as a work of historical fact by the author of volume 1, Giovanni Paulo Marana (1642-93), a political refugee in the French Court from Genoa. To keep publishing further volumes, Robert Midgley, who owned the copyright worked with translator William Bradshaw to make the first English language edition in 1687. The first set of letters, volume 1, was first released from 1684-86.
