Front inner hinge broken with split to gutter between the double page map and the following leaf (pages 1-2). Some pencil underlining in margins. Pencil marginalia on rear free endpaper. Contemporary owner's signature "G H Balfour 1897". Rubber stamps of "John McGlashan College / Maori Hill" on endpapers and margins of some text leaves. Later owner's ex-libris bookplate, "The Library of Hardwicke Knight", on front endpaper. A few small marks and some fading to boards. Some rubbing to joints. Slight 1/8" fraying to cloth at tips of corners of boards. Minor foxing. ; xii, 254 pages + frontispiece + 7 plates + 1 double page map + [6] pages advertisements. Publisher's dark blue cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine and front board. Page dimensions: 199 x 134mm.
