There is a bookplate of the original owner, the author and peer Peter Calvocoressi on on the ffep opposite a gift dedication to him from the giver. The pages are deckle edged and at p.169 someone has torn rather than cut it cleanly. (all pages had to be originally hand cut. open.)The ends of the spine are fraying. The front corners are aslo a little worn. The gilt on the front is clear and bright. A little foxing on the back endpapers. 13 beautifully coloured plates, tipped in. Handsome book.
