Pictorial boards are worn and a little marked and the bottom of the spine is slightly frayed. The book is complete with all 16 charming colour plates as issued. Some of the black and white illustrations have been carefully coloured in by a previous owner. If anything, this has improved the book. The binding is strong and there are no inscriptions. Nach Kriegsende entdeckte Wood seine Liebe zur Tierwelt und humorvolle Zeichnungen rückten immer mehr in den Vordergrund seiner Arbeiten. Um die Genauigkeit der Details sicherzustellen, besuchte Wood regelmäßig den Londoner Zoo und eine kleine Menagerie in Eastbourne. Wood gewann mit seinen Zeichnungen eines komischen Polizisten, von Buchstaben, prähistorischen Tieren und Affen relativ große Popularität. - "Merit Postage" stamp (Märkchen) auf vorderem Innendeckel. Light fading to the spine and the odd small mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. A 2" closed tear to the plate facing page sixteen.
