(Boston: Privately Printed by the Author 1902). LIMITED EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL PUBLISHER'S SLIP-CASE. # 479 of 3,000 copies. Publisher's original pictorial buckram with gilt embossment on the cover, gilt title onblack leather label to the spine. Top edge gilt. All pages rough-cut. Photogravure frontispiece and 88 illustrations (as called for) in colour and black and white with captioned tissue-guards. Limitation leaf printed in red, black and gold. Both front and rear hinges exposed due to the sheer size of this book. Overall about VG. The slip-case is worn and rubbed but also about VG. This copy presented to "J N Armitage" with a newspaper obituary from the Bradford Telegraph (dated 20/2/1928) to the copyright page. At the rear of the book is a photograph of J N Armitage with caption underneath stating that he was a member of the Royal Gourock Yacht Club. There is a newspaper clipping from the Yorkshire Observer (Maty 24, 1913) opposite the index page at the rear of the book concerning The America Cup (a Sixty Years' Quest) by J N Armitage and a couple of other newspaper clippings by him on the on the next couple of pages. An iconic work and the first history of the America's Cup races. Uncommon in the original binding in the publisher's slipcase. Photographs/scans available upon request.
