Owner's name on a small bookplate to front pastedown. Front and back flaps clipped top and bottom. A large open tear to spine base, several closed tears, and chipped corners. In clear protective cover. BCE/BOMC. [1943]. Copyright 1942 and 1943, stated. Russet red cloth with dark red lettering and top stain. The Book Club dust jacket with the same cover art as the first trade edition, but no price on front flap and rear flap advert for war bonds. Basis for the Twentieth Century-Fox 1944 film noir starring Gene Tierney as Laura and Mark McPherson as the detective on her case. A very scarce title. A Haycraft Queen Cornerstone.
