Original blue cloth, pictorial cover label. 8vo; 287 pp. Illustrated with 8 color plates by Francis. P. Wightman. The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear. First Edition, Third Printing. . The story is set in turn-of-the-century Egypt and is a tale of love, betrayal, and Revenge. Written shortly after Baum's trip to the Middle East in 1906. There he met publisher Edward Stern and through their friendship the book was offered to Stern and published without Baum's name attached due to his contract negotiations with Reilly and Britton.
