Black leather with giltdouble border-lines to covers and gilt decorated paneled sp. with gilt-on-red title label, deckled edges, all edges gilt. clean and unworn bar routine sl. corner. Col. f/piece of The Good Samaritan with tissue guard + engraved t.p. + t.p. + 376, text engravings (oc. full page), decorated chapter opening capitals, head and tail-pieces, throughout, there are 44 chapters; yellow end-papers have greyish discoloration to centres, 3 prev. owners sigs.: one on fr. t.p. rather faint and scrawled dated '21/5/69', probably 1869 but a little ambiguous, December 12 1913 verso fr. end-paper, and elaborate semi-calligraphic sig.in ornately penned swirling border to recto fr. fly, small January 1948 date at bottom in same hand, this also has a few tanning spots, to verso also, rear blank before end-paper similarly affected. A fairly lavish production, faults sound worse for being spelled out, quite excellent for age. Apparently rare. 13 cm x 18.5 cm. Seller Inventory # 013661
