The first part of the sale included 93 manuscripts (32 being Books of Hours), many with distinguished provenances including such collectors as Sir Thomas Phillipps, Sir Sydney Cockerell, Dyson Perrins, St John Hornby, Major J.R. Abbey, the Duke of Newcastle and Sir Leicester Harmsworth, William Morris and John Ruskin.
