Padded dark brown leather binding; top two-thirds of spine leather darkened to black with surface furrows lengthwise, shallow chipping across spine head with short tear and scuffing at heel; similar darkening at rear board's top right; wear along top edges of both boards; front board in particular having tearing and surface leather loss with underlying padding exposed for 2.5cm at top fore-edge corner; gilt stamped lettering to front board and spine remains bright. All edges gilt. Floral decorated endpapers. Illustrations throughout in b/w and various shades of sepia, blue, and green. Toning to ffep verso and opposing ffly recto as well as rfly verso and rfep recto. A few occurrences of toning and scattered foxing to interior pages which, overall, remain quite clean. Binding is firm. A good copy per the aforementioned exterior cosmetic flaws but still an attractive edition of Sir Thomas Moore's classic story combining both poetry and prose which was first published in 1817. NEEDS TO BE RE-CASED. Missing front and rear boards with spine leather perished; presumably missing free endpapers as well but front and rear flyleaves are present and attached as entire text block is intact. H 26.5cm x L 21.25cm. [8], 1-405, [1] pages. All edges gilt. First four single-sided unpaged leaves comprised of three titles and dedication on rectos only as follows: first being pictorial title with illustration credit to Richard Westall and with 1817 imprint of "Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, & Brown;" second title is text only with 1817 imprint of "Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown;" third leaf is printed dedication to Samuel Rogers; fourth leaf is a pictorial title with illustration credit to R. Smirke and 1822 imprint of "Rodwell & Martin." In addition to the titles are eleven b/w plates all on unpaged leaves bound-in opposite pages 27, 47, 120, 149, 156, 184, 198, 235, 263, 314, and 317. A few moisture stains to top margins with mostly light foxing/toning to interior leaves although quite stronger to the b/w plates and their adjacent pages.
