In 1918 he served as a secretary of the National Council of Galician Jewry in the Western Ukrainian National Republic (1918-1919). The date and circumstances of his death are uncertain. One version is that he was arrested by the Soviets and subsequently died in the Gulag. Another is that he managed to escape the Gulag but was later murdered during the Holocaust.
