Kangaroo Land By The Rev. Arthur Polehampton, Richard Bentley, London, 1862, frontispiece, illustrated title vignette, 269 pp plus adverts, pictorial stamped cloth, 8 x 5.25 , 8vo. In fair condition. Ex-library of Mudie s Library in London with yellow label adhered to front board. Moderate wear to extremities with scuffing to corners and edges. Spine abraded with worn, crushed ends. Faded at edges and spine. Gilt kangaroo stamp at center is scuffed but intact. Front gutter tender with binding mesh exposed. Soiled end papers. Internally fair with toned edges, finger soiling and marginalia. Rear advert leaf is torn with loss. Rear fly is torn with loss as well. Binding intact. Spine slanted. Please see photos. A scarce first edition of this novel set against the backdrop of nineteenth century Australia and the difficulties of life for immigrants and settlers.
