About this Item
Edinburgh: Printed for Bell & Bradfute, Edinburgh; and for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, London, 1823. 9 (scant) x 5 5/8". xv, 574pp., [1]f. 7 engraved plates, two folding. Original boards (see image at left), backstrip and sewing pretty much perished, binding split between pp. 144 and 145. Textblock with some soiling, foxed. Collated and complete, half-title and corrigenda leaf present. The appendix includes quite a lot about hyacinths and a list of the fruit trees in the Jardin des Plantes. Not the most physically appealing example, but appears to be James MacDonald's copy with "James M'Donald / 1822" written on verso of rear free endpaper and Mrs. MacDonald's book label on front paste-down. MacDonald was chief gardener at Dalkeith Park and a member of the deputation. Seller Inventory # 004766
