Oblong quarto. Unpaginated. Thick olive wood boards with carved Jerusalem Cross within carved & decorative color border on front cover. Also known as the Crusaders' Cross, it is a heraldic cross or Christian symbol consisting of a large Greek cross surrounded by four smaller Greek crosses, one in each quadrant. Beveled edges. Maroon cloth spine with laid-down decorative titled leather strip. Title-page lettering printed in gold. Illustrated with eighteen photochrom prints by T. R. Dumas in rich vibrant colors and 18 original pressed flowers from various famous sites of the Holy Land (list below). Flowers neatly pasted on card stock, all protected by tissue guards. Photochromes show various scenery and monuments of the Holy Land such as Jaffa, Jerusalem, St. Sepulcre, Mosque el Aska, Mont des Oliviers et Gethsemani, vue GĂ nĂ rale de BĂ thane, Bethleem Panorama, Palistine - Vasques de Salomon, Hebron - vue Generale, La mer Morte, La mer Morte et les Montagnes de JudĂ e, M. Carmel et vue GĂ nĂ rale de Caiffa, Damas - Minaret de la FiancĂ e, Damas - la Derchvicherie, Lac Asphalite, Interieur du Temple Soleil. Photochrom captions in French. Captions on flower plates in English, German, and French. Some surface scratches on boards, rubbing on spine. Small area on bottom edge of front board chipped, vertical crack on back board but holding. Front- and rear endpapers reinforced with white binders tape along gutter. Minor finger-smudges on margins of few plates. Top-right corner of pages slightly bumped. Offsetting from flowers and some creasing on tissue guards. Binding in very good, actual images and flowers in near fine to fine condition.
