About this Item
This Set of Four (4) Japanese Children's Fairy Tale Picture Books portray familiar Japanese fairy tales in the format of graphic novels. Each book represents its story in Japanese text, accompanied by beautiful full-color illustrations. All the books are ex-library. According to entries in the library check-out records in some of the books, it appears that they were all probably published in the 1940s. The individual books are: Ushiwakamaru (possibly the name of a samurai warrior in the 1300s) - The subject of the book is believed to be the life and adventures of a samurai warrior of the 1300s. The book measures approximately 7 ½ x 10 ¼ inches and contains 70 pages of text and illustrations. The book is hard bound in illustrated paper covered boards. The pages are tanned, with some occasional semi-detachments and a repaired detachment at the rear cover. The covers show signs of wear, including scratches on the front and rear. The original library check-out records are pasted in the inner front cover and front free end paper. The overall condition of the book is good. Hanasaka Jiijie (possible translation is Flower Blossoming Grandfather) - The subject of the book is believed to be the adventures of a grand-father. The book measures approximately 7 ½ x 10 ¼ inches and contains 70 pages of text and illustrations. The book is bound in illustrated stiff paper covered boards. The covers show signs of wear, including library-provided repairs to the spine and internal connections to the body of the book. The original library check-out records are pasted in the inner front cover and front free end paper. The overall condition of the book is good. Momo Tavo (possible translation is Peach Boy) - The subject of the book is believed to be the adventures of a boy who was ? "born" from a large peach and grows to fight and conquer the evil beings of the land. The book measures approximately 7 ½ x 10 inches and contains 52 pages of text and illustrations. The book is bound in illustrated stiff paper covered boards. The pages are slightly tanned. The overall condition of the book is good to very good. (Possible translation of the Japanese title is The Wonderful Tea-kettle) - The subject matter of the story is the tale of a man who has a tea-kettle that can become animated and perform before audiences. The book measures approximately 7 ½ x 10 inches and contains 16 pages (including the covers) of text and illustrations. The book is bound in illustrated stiff paper covered boards. The pages are slightly tanned. The original library checkout "pocket" is attached to the front free end paper. The overall condition of the book is very good.
