Reprint edition of the original 3 volume set by Smith and Elder (London) of 1847. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for the F/O name. Book Condition: Good +; light suntoning to spine; bumping to head, tail, and tips; shelfwear to board edges; wear to fabric at head and tail; lower corner tips are folded from page 131 to 138. No DJ. Gray cloth boards and spine with green and black lettering on the spine and front board. Clean internals. Inner hinges are sound and not split. 462 pp + 2 pages of advertising at end of book 12mo. It contains a copy of the original inscription by the author using the pen name Currer Bell dated 1847 in order to hide her identity being a woman and the dedication to Mr Thackeray. The date of 1874 is carried over from the original 1847 copy. This partially autobiographical novel describes the passionate love between the courageous orphan Jane Eyre and the brilliant, brooding, and domineering Rochester. The loneliness and cruelty of Jane?s childhood strengthens her natural independence and spirit, which prove invaluable when she takes a position as a governess at Thornfield Hall.
