About this Item
Large format artotype of a low iron bridge in the Bronx. Mounted on heavy stock with contemporary calligraphic title below measuring 42x51 cm. The image, clearly taken during the winter, shows a man in an overcoat and hat standing in the middle of the bridge which has a rutted unpaved road as an approach. One house at the far right is the only structure clearly visible, though there are a couple of chimneys and a roof obscured near that structure. Overall, the area, in the middle of the Bronx, appears very lightly populated. This image was likely taken before 1898 when the Bronx was still in Westchester County. The only identification is a blind stamp in the mounting stock for Edward Bierstadt's studio at the lower right. Seller Inventory # p00062
