Industrial Biography: Iron Workers and Tool Makers. By Samuel Smiles and printed in London by John Murray. 1863, 342 pp, 7 x 5 , 8vo, 3/4 leather hardcover. Overall very good, with minor rubbing and wear along edges of boards and corners. Hinges remain in good condition and text block remains bound well. Bookplate from Sir. Thomas Boord on front pastedown. Minimal markings and marginalia. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A beautifully preserved piece on the history of iron production an influential figures within it. Owned by Sir Thomas Boord (1838-1912), a Conservative Party politician and MP from 1873 to 1895. By British political reformer Samuel Smiles (1812-1904), best known as the author of Self-Help (1859).
