Published in 1964 by Oxford University Press. Translated by Angus Davidson. Hard cover - the previous owner cut up the dust jacket into front and back covers and inner flaps (see photos), these will be included inside the book. See photos for condition. Hard cover boards have edgewear - ink fading on top and bottom edges, with some small dings. Cardboard exposed in a spot on the top of back board, and at the corners, which are curling in. Top of text block has some splotch staining. The 4 full color fold out photographs are intact (two of which are shown in photos) - the top corner of the first one has a small dog-ear. Pages appear clean and clear of writing, markings, highlighting, notable damage or staining. Binding in great shape, beginning to show very minor signs of loosening. Born in Rome in 1896, Mario Praz has been Professor of Italian in England and since then Professor of English in Italy. Hi own life as scholar, essayist, and art historian has been outwardly alm and unexciting, but inwardly it has been rich with things that delight the eye and the mind. In the realm of art, the description of the interiors will be of great interest to collectors, particularly those of Regency and Empire works. This is the story of the life of a connoiseur of art and of literature, serious but not solemn, erudite but very human. The book is illustrated with four fold-out colour plates and eight half-tones. The cloth bound hardback is in Very Good condition save for the slightest discolouration through the pages which is understandable for the ages. Otherwise the binding is tight. The Dust Jacket is in Good condition, frayed and creased towards top spine and along the top, front, rear and edges of the Dust Jacket in particular. The Dust Jacket is unclipped.
