Very Good condition 1st Edition/1st Printing in Very Good condition dust jacket. "Most eminent of its students, Dr. Spaeth has written the history of American popular music in a manner itself certain to be popular. It's good, exciting reading. Besides emphasizing items of historical importance (patriotic songs, political and martial airs, and occasional examples of unquestionable inspiration such as the ballads of Stephen Foster) the book delves into the obscure backgrounds of many familiar melodies whose creators are virtually unknown to the general public. It is the kind of fascinating detective work for which Dr. Spaeth has won much fame. As an argument-settler it is superb, and for general reference it will take an honored place in any library. In addition to Dr. Spaeth's elaborate text there is the most complete listing of popular music ever assembled in print. Here you will find an index of songs and instrumental numbers arranged by titles and also by composers--a nostalgic treasure chest of melody certain to stimulate to ecstatic effort the bathroom baritones and kitchen coloraturas of our singing land". -- from the book's inside flaps. This lovely 1st printing is spotless inside except what appears to be a tread mark from a show on the reverse of the last endpage and the rear pastedown. None of the pages are creased, marked or damaged. They are only just very slightly tanned. Exterior covers and spine are equally spotless. The upper left and lower left corners of the back cover are each very lightly bumped, front corners are sharp. There is just the slightest rub wear to bottom edges of covers and spine. The dust jacket is not price-clipped and is completely clean but a little tanned, especially on the spine. There is some wear to the edges including several chips and tears, the longest of which is about 3/4". The dust jacket has been placed in a clear mylar protective cover. A must-have reference for the student of popular and traditional music in America, it will be bubble-wrapped and shipped in a sturdy box to ensure safe delivery. Seller Inventory # ABH150
