In French. Only Tome Troisieme of I believe a Three Volume Set. You can see the leather covers in the photographs provided. I think they've held up pretty well. There is one band missing on the spine. It would have contained the title. There's also a small rubbed off area at the top of the spine. There is a 3/8 inch crack off the top edge at the juncture between the front cover and spine. There's also a thin crack coming up from the bottom edge of the front cover at the juncture of the spine. However, the 3/8 inch crack is the only one visible from the inside. And it doesn't create any give or any looseness at all. The front cover is very securely bound. That is also the case for the rear cover. There are no cracks/spaces anywhere else inside the book. This is a very solidly bound book. The pages are very tight. And they are in excellent condition, very, very clean, no tears, no loss, no foxing. I saw only a couple of light creases. Really nice-looking pages. All three page edges are red. The page edges are in excellent condition. There is a green ribbon in the book. The inside covers and end papers are marbled. There is one stain on both the front inside cover and on the first front end paper. There is also just a little residue left from a very small bookplate that was affixed to the front inside cover. It just came right off. I've left it loose in the book. No one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. And the bookplate was the only attachment. After the publication of this work, Saint-Foix was named historiographer of the Order of the Holy Spirit. ''Saint-Foix s'attache ici moins que ses prédécesseurs aux généalogies. Il fait mieux connaître les services des chevaliers et relève quelques erreurs où nos historiens étaient tombés''. (in Quérard). ''Je me propose ici de m'étendre en longs détails sur ceux que nos rois ont admis dans l'Ordre du Saint-Esprit. En rappelant leurs noms, je rapporterai quelques traits, anecdotes et qualités de ces hommes, présentant ainsi une suite d'exemples honorables à la nation et dignes d'un Ordre si illustre. J'ai tâché aussi de découvrir l'origine de plusieurs usages qu'on y a conservés, que j'ai donné sur quelques Statuts et éclaircissements absolument nécessaires''.
