Original printed wraps 15x21cm. Printed by HMSO in Nov 1975, with title dated 1975/76. 76pp including 2 full-page maps and a double-page plan, with 4 Amendments on (6)pp dated Jan-Mar 1976 loosely laid in. Wraps very good except for small faint date stamp and an asterisk to the front. Interiors very good with some spotting, except for brief ms notes and amendments to 3 or 4 pages and the Amendments slips, 5 lines neatly redacted in ink on p12 (the text remains legible), and 2 under and sidelines to p69. Scarce. Part of a series of country guides issued by the Board of Trade at various points since the 1940s, this was prepared to give market seeking British exporters essential practical information prior to and during a visit. This would have supported Britain's desire to consolidate commercial ties with these recently independent oil rich states. This opens with contact details for the Commercial Secretaries at the British Embassies in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Muscat. Sections cover general information (geography, people, towns, climate, language, health, social customs, religion, hours of business etc); travel (to and within); hotels, restaurants and tipping; postal, telephone, telegraph and telex; economic factors; import and exchange control regulations; methods of doing business; reading; and Government and commercial organisations. One map shows UAE and Oman on a scale of approx 1 inch to 85 miles, featuring major settlements, airports, and boundaries with note stating the Saudi border with Oman and PDR Yemen is approximate, and the UAE-Saudi is in the process of negotiation. The other map shows the stretch of coast from SIB International Airport to Muscat. The double-page plan of Abu Dhabi town gives street names with a key for 29 important buildings.
