About this Item
This VG- quality book was copyrighted in 1899 and published by the Mershon Company; it is 7-1/2" tall with 248 numbered pages of text; this series was issued without dust jackets. It is clearly format #1 as per Mattson & Davis (medium brown cloth with white lettering on front; spine has title in gold lettering, author in black, series name & publisher in white; pictorial front & spine, in black, red, white & blue, showing on front an American flag, drum, saber, stacked muskets, & cannon and on spine an American flag enclosed within a wreath; plain end pages; frontis + 3, all on coated paper). This book has a slight lean, is quite clean, free of edge dings with all four corners lightly bumped; the head and heel of the spine are also bumped, with some color loss at both places but no fraying. The bottom edges have a moderate amount of wear. The spine is not faded but is worn and the white lettering and image are not as distinct as they should be; there is a small scruff mark on the rear gutter ridge and onto the rear panel. The image on the front panel is intact and not damaged. Except for a neatly inked name on the FFEP and a small book store sticker ("Chodat's / Bookstore / Decatur, Ill.") the interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage of any type. Both hinges are quite strong and not damaged in any fashion. The text paper is barely toned and is a bit stiff but not at all brittle. The frontis plus three are on coated paper and are clean and intact. Both hinges are strong and not damaged in any way. The book has no remainder mark and is not a former library book. The list at the front of the book lists all six titles of this series. Seller Inventory # BMR-2020-8-24-2
