About this Item
This is a lot of two small items, each 5 by 8", one a promotional handbill or broadside for a rally and concert promotong the Hampton Institutte and Tuskegee College Eight Million Dollar fund drive of 1925. Quartettes from each school sang and the list of speakers reads like a Whos Who of Black educators : Dr. R. R. Moton from Tuskegee (whose portrait is on the handbill), Dr. Anson Phelps Stokes of Yale, Professor Kelly Miller , music Director Nathaniel Dett , Prof. G. C. Wilkinson, head of the segregated DC school system. Besides the handbill, there is the one-page program from the event, which was held April 1, 1925 at the Meropolitan A.M.E. Church in Washington. The handbill is near fine, the Program VG+ due to a crease across the lowerl eft corner. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 2 pages. Seller Inventory # 17142
