Original period hand colored lithograph, from John Gould's "Birds of Australia", the most complete and comprehensive ornithological work on Australia ever completed published. Plate Number 5, Volume I. Powerful image of a pair of Whistling Eagles (also known as the Whistling Kite). The Kite is a medium sized raptor with a light brown head and under parts, with pale streaks, and dark brown wings with paler undersides. This raptor is found over a wide area in Australia, although it is uncommon in Tasmania. 14 1/2 x 21 1/2". Faint toning to outer edges, otherwise very good condition. Seller Inventory # 24434
