FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 5.75 x 8.5 inches. [4] + 250 pp. Rebound in crimson quarter morocco over marbled boards; spine in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt. Traces of foxing but otherwise a fine copy in good modern binding. Decorated with publisher's device on title page. An account of local life and customs on the Adriatic coast in the neighbourhood of the Sibylline range of the Apennines, somewhere in the southern part of the province of Le Marche. The 1880's equivalent of the modern Under the Tuscan Sun genre of books, this is a fascinating study of a long vanished peasant existence by Margaret Collier (1846-1928), following her marriage and new life in Italy.
